About NWT Public Library Services
The Northwest Territories Public Library Services is a unit of Education Operations and Development within the Department of Education, Culture and Employment. Under the direction of the Territorial Librarian, it provides leadership in coordinating public library services throughout the Northwest Territories.
The
PLS provides the automated library system for the
NWT Library Network (Public
Libraries,Legislative Library, Aurora College
Libraries, Aurora Research Institute Library and
PWNHC Reference Library). It provides collection
development and technical services for all public
libraries except Yellowknife Public Library. A
central library collection is maintained and used to
rotate current material to smaller libraries.
Service delivery is provided to residents in
communities without libraries through access to the
PLS Web page and online catalogue, and borrow by
mail services. PLS coordinates some special
programming and provides training and support to all
NT community libraries.
NWTPLS is a territory-wide information system that
supports Community Libraries in
Aklavik, Deline, Fort Good Hope, Fort McPherson,
Fort Providence, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson, Fort
Smith, Hay River, Hay River Dene Village, Inuvik,
Norman Wells, Tulita, Yellowknife and Ulukhaktok.
Virtual Libraries,
consisting of two public access Internet
workstations, operate
in Diavik, Edzo, Enterprise, Fort Liard, Lutsel K'e,
Nahanni Butte, Paulatuk, Rae, Sachs Harbour ,Tsiigehtchic,
Tuktoyaktuk, Wha Ti and Wekweti.
